Popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was the target of a case brought by Maharashtra’s cyber police after a spoof account allegedly shared a false statement on X regarding the daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
The Claims Of The Post
The post claimed that the daughter of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha had passed the Union Public Service Commission exam without taking it, according to the cyber department. According to the authorities, the message was uploaded from an account with the handle @dhruvrahtee.
One of Om Birla’s relatives reported the issue to the police. Following the complaint, the police filed charges against the YouTuber under sections of the IT Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for defamation, malicious insult with purpose to provoke breach of peace, and statement leading to mischief.
Dhruv Rathee Comments On The Situation
Dhruv Rathee became enraged upon hearing that he had been arrested by the police and attacked a media outlet for using his name without verifying the details. “Go use your eyes to confirm that some random parody Twitter account created this purported post. He said, “I have nothing to do with this.
A police official stated that the situation was being looked into when it was brought to light that the purportedly phony message was uploaded by a parody account rather than Rathee’s.
The Parody Account Deletes The Posts
The parody account posted a screenshot of a notice from Maharashtra’s cyber police on Saturday. The statement said, “You have been the subject of a formal complaint filed by the Nodal Office, on the grounds that you have published offensive material concerning Ms. Anjali Birla, the daughter of Om Birla.”
“I have deleted all my posts and comments on Anjali Birla as directed by @MahaCyber1,” the spoof account tweeted in response to the dispute. I apologize for sharing and copying someone else’s tweets without knowing the whole context.”
On the other hand, the account’s bio states, “As directed by @MahaCyber1, I have deleted all my posts and comments on Anjali Birla. I would like to apologize, as I was unaware of the facts and copied someone else’s tweets and shared them.”
