A powerful storm wreaked devastation in the Jalpaiguri area of West Bengal, leaving at least five dead and over 100 injured. Superintendent Kalyan Khan of Jalpaiguri Government Medical College reported that 170 people were reported in the emergency room and 49 patients had been admitted. Locals in Jalpaiguri district said that a “very strong” storm in Mainaguri struck various regions in the district. Numerous homes fell apart. The hospital has admitted dozens of patients. A large number of them have passed away. There are more injured patients being admitted to the hospital, a resident reported.
Mamta Banerjee Comments
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, stated on social media that people impacted by the seasonal storm were being relocated to safer areas. She posted on social media, expressing her sadness over the “sadness to know that sudden heavy rainfall and stormy winds brought disasters today afternoon in some Jalpaiguri-Mainaguri areas, with loss of human lives, injuries, house damages, uprooting of trees and electricity poles, etc.”
The leader of the Trinamool Congress also stated that relief was being provided by the district and block administration, police, the Disaster Management Group, and the Quick Response Team.
Five people lost their lives and multiple houses sustained damage as a result of the calamity. There are two more in critical condition. The administration is responding quickly and offering assistance when needed. The government is assisting the victims as much as it can,” she stated.
Compensation For Families Amidst Jalpaiguri Storms
The head of TMC also declared compensation for the families of the deceased.
In a post on X (previously Twitter), she stated, “District administration will provide compensation to next of kin in the case of the deaths, and the injured as per rules and following the MCC.”

PM Modi Expresses His Regret On The Jalpaiguri Situation
Along with expressing his sorrow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked all BJP employees in Bengal to help the impacted parties.
“My thoughts are with the people impacted by the storms in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri and Mainaguri regions. PM Modi posted on X, expressing his condolences to those who had lost close ones.
Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of the TMC, stated that he is in constant contact with the Jalpaiguri local leadership and that he will be visiting Jalpaiguri Medical College to speak with those impacted by the cyclone in the area.
