Trent Boult, who is regarded as one of the best pacers in New Zealand cricket history, has said that the current T20 World Cup 2024 will be his final participation for the Black Caps in the T20 championship.
Trent Boult: One Of The Best Fast Bowlers
Boult has solidified his reputation as one of the best fast bowlers to play in all three formats for the New Zealand team. Tim Southee finishes his T20 World Cup career having taken 32 wickets, making him the nation’s second-highest wicket-taker in the competition.
Along with finishing the 2024 edition as the Kiwis’ leading wicket-taker in the competition, he claimed seven wickets in the four group-stage matches he played in. It was disappointing to learn that New Zealand’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign ended prematurely in the group stages.
“On my own behalf, this T20 World Cup will be my last. Boult stated as much during the news conference following New Zealand’s nine-wicket victory over Uganda.
The Kiwis registered their first win of the tournament by beating Uganda by 8 wickets and 88 balls to spare. They suffered defeats at the hands of Afghanistan and the West Indies to confirm their premature exit.
“Definitely (it was) not the start we wanted in the tournament. A hard one to take. Just gutted we’re not going any further. But any time you get to represent the country, it’s a proud moment.”
Making The Nation Proud
Despite not having an all-star team, New Zealand has a reputation for playing above its level. Moreover, the team has advanced far in the majority of ICC competitions. They defeated India at Lords to win the World Test Championship’s first edition. They also proceeded to reach the ODI World Cup finals in 2015 and 2019, respectively, back-to-back. Furthermore, they advanced to the 2021 T20 World Cup finals as well.
“Playing for the nation and in the locker room, we take great satisfaction in our accomplishments over the years. Regretfully, we haven’t played well these past few weeks, and that’s what it takes to be eliminated.
“We’re a proud nation and we’ll continue to go that way,” he said, adding that “it’s unfortunate that there’s still some tremendous talent inside that dressing room and coming through the ranks in New Zealand cricket.”
After playing one more match against Papua New Guinea, New Zealand will concentrate on their upcoming international assignment, a three-match Test series at home against England.
