Drake, the Grammy Award-winning Canadian rapper, had reportedly put his “first cricket bet” of USD 250,000 (about INR 2.07 crore) on Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 final.
Drake Announces The Bet
Canadian rapper Drake uploaded an image of his bet on KKR with odds of 1.70 for a win in a narrative he shared on his Instagram feed. In the story’s caption, he used the catchphrase of KKR, “Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo”. According to the receipt he uploaded, Drake is eligible to earn US$ 425,000 (around INR 3.53 crore) if KKR prevails.
Drake And His Successfull Betting Career
Drake is renowned for placing large wagers on a variety of sports, including football, American football, and basketball. He has placed a wager of USD 2 million (about INR 16.6 crore) on Israel Adesanya vs. Alex Pereira, a middleweight match scheduled for the UFC in 2022. Drake placed a wager on Adesanya, who Pereira defeated via technical knockout.
Drake wagered a whopping $1.15 million in Bitcoin back in February, banking on the Kansas City Chiefs to defeat the San Francisco 49ers and win Super Bowl LVIII. The Canadian musician captioned a picture of his betting slip on social media, saying, “I can’t bet against the Swifties,” a reference to Taylor Swift’s devoted fan base. Drake made a huge profit after winning the wager.
Drake has a history of successful betting, but it hasn’t always been easy. For example, in the 2023 World Cup final between France and Argentina, he lost $1 million. In UFC 293 he also lost a $500,000 wager on Israel Adesanya to defeat Sean Strickland via knockout. Additionally, he lost $275,000 when Jorge Masvidal was defeated by Colby Covington at UFC 272.
But Drake appeared to break the curse the previous year when he wagered $300,000 in Bitcoin on the Los Angeles Rams, defeating the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVII. In July 2023, he also won $25 million with French Montana while playing virtual roulette.
KKR Vs SRH IPL 2024
The KKR, captained by Shreyas Iyer, are vying for their third IPL championship, having won the trophy in 2012 and 2014. They won Qualifier 1 against SRH by eight wickets after topping the group stage points table. The 2016 winners, SRH, were second in the league stage points table and defeated the Rajasthan Royals by 36 runs in Qualifier 2 following a defeat in Qualifier 1.
