“The epic drama series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is well-known for his mastery of film, made its Netflix debut today, May 1. With their film 1942: A Love Story, Bhansali and Manisha Koirala last worked together thirty years ago. While Heeramandi and the iconic 1994 film belong to the same genre, the new series explored themes of freedom, love, brothels, and jealousy, delving into raw emotions.
While the actors are portrayed more tastefully, the series offers hints of films such as Devdas, Mandi, Kalank, and Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Heeramandi: The Cast

Fardeen Khan, reprising her role as Wali Mohammed in the series, is joined by Taha Shah (Tajdar) and Jason Shah (Cartwright). The 14-year-old series has become more popular on the OTT platform.

Aditi Rao Hydari and Manisha Koirala steal the show.
“First episode and I’m already loving the chemistry between Alamzeb and Tajdar #Heeramandi,” wrote another social media user.”@mkoiral,” another netizen said. It’s good to see you after a long time. Excellent performance at acting. by all the people of Heeramandi. I was taken aback to discover Fardeen is an actress.
Few, meanwhile, did not find the Netflix series to be impressive. Abhijit Iyer-Mitra posted on X, the former Twitter, asking if anyone could watch #Heeramandi past the first fifteen minutes. Great sets, but only two songs in fifteen minutes? There’s no plot at all, and the storytelling is awful. When Sanjay Leela Bhansali first thought about Heeramandi eighteen years ago, he intended to cast Rekha, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Rani Mukerji, according to a recent interview with Filmfare magazine.
