Lana Del Rey wowed the crowd with her ethereal and dreamy song stylings as the main act of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Friday night. But to start things off, she made an incredible entrance.
Presenting Lana Del Rey
Standing on the back of a motorcycle, she arrived on the stage accompanied by her support vocalists and dancers while “Jealous Girl” played nonstop through the speakers. The greatest festival entrance ever? We believe that. Naturally, the singer was beaming as she opened the event with “Without You.”
Lana Del Rey is practically linked with the well-known festival; in fact, she has a song named “Coachella: Woodstock in My Mind.” She is renowned for her dreamy, seductive, and sorrowful compositions. But this is her first year playing the main stage; she last performed on the Outdoor Theatre stage at Coachella in 2014, exactly ten years ago.
The singer looked stunning on stage in a sparkling blue outfit, her hair blowing in the breeze the entire night. Videos from her career as well as images of palm trees and crashing waves were displayed on the screen, alternating between black and white and color.
More On The Performance
Landa Del Rey’s stage had two balconies where she serenaded the audience, three tall white columns, and meandering staircases on the side, all of which were not very visible to those in the rear.
Counting the number of singles in Lana Del Rey’s nine-album discography is a challenging task. With songs like “Summertime Sadness,” “Cherry,” “Pretty When You Cry,” and “Born to Die,” her set served as a constant reminder of them all. Even though the songs weren’t the typical hard-hitting, bass-heavy, flamboyant ones that are played during Coachella shows, both ardent supporters and casual listeners couldn’t stop moving all night long.
The performer appeared more assured on stage the longer she performed. She sounded amazing, however, it was disheartening that she would frequently cut down on how much she sang, choosing instead to hold the microphone out for the audience to participate during specific lines. She nevertheless provided her audience with the dreamy vocals they desired. In particular, her voice caught my attention as she sang the chorus of “Ride,” holding the lyrics “I just ride.” Even at the beginning of “The Grants,” she sang harmony with backing vocalists before assuming full control of the song.
