A club fan group announced on Sunday that Bayern Munich will erect a statue outside their home stadium, the Allianz Arena, in memory of the late German football star Franz Beckenbauer. Generally regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Beckenbauer passed away in January at the age of 78.
The Announcement
Der Kaiser’s statue will be placed next to the September-unveiled one of Bayern Munich striker Gerd Mueller, a former comrade.
Franz Beckenbauer will be honoured with a bronze statue, 1.5 times his life size, in front of the Allianz Arena, by the side of Gerd Müller’s statue. The implementation is expected to take around 1.5 years

The Franz Beckenbauer Statue
His statue will be placed adjacent to the September-unveiled one of Gerd Müller, the Bayern striker and former comrade. At 75 years old, Müller passed away in August 2021, maintaining the record for most goals scored in the Bundesliga.
According to the Kurt Landauer Foundation, which bears the former club president’s name, the statue will be 2.7 meters tall, or 1.5 times larger than the German football legend. It will be cast in bronze. The organization said in a statement that Beckenbauer’s statue “will be cast in bronze in his incomparably elegant pose as a conductor of the game.”
Beckenbauer was instrumental in the construction of the Allianz Arena, which opened in time for Germany’s 2006 World Cup hosting. Bayern Munich and Beckenbauer’s family are supporting the project, which should take 18 months to finish. Supporters are urged to give.
Franz Beckenbauer Career
Munich-born Beckenbauer spent 13 years as a player with Bayern, winning the German Cup, Bundesliga, and Champions League on several occasions. He then went on to lead the team to success as manager.
Before leading Bayern Munich to their first Bundesliga promotion and going on to win league titles and European Cups with the team, Beckenbauer established his reputation there.
Beckenbauer’s incredible run with the German national team, when he won the World Cup as a player and coach, was also aided by Bayern. That is an achievement that just three guys have accomplished. As a player and coach for Germany, Beckenbauer won the World Cup on a national level. He is the only defender to have won the Ballon d’Or twice.
