Sunil Narine, an all-rounder with the Kolkata Knight Riders, reached a significant milestone when he became the fourth player—and just the second spinner—to reach 500 appearances in the T20 format.
Most T20 Appearances
In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 encounter between KKR and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, Narine was included in the starting lineup.
Before Narine, the two players with the most appearances in the T20 format are his former teammates, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard.
Bravo is next behind Pollard in second place with 573 appearances, having made 660 T20 outings. All-rounder Shoaib Malik of Pakistan, who has made 542 T20 outings, takes third place.
Narine claimed the wicket of Glenn Maxwell during his 500th Twenty20 match, giving up 40 runs in his four-over stint.
A Look At The Average Of Narine And Others
Narine has averaged 21.47 across 500 T20 games, amassing 3736 runs and 537 wickets. In the T20 format, Narine’s best bowling average is 5/19.
Pollard has amassed 12,900 runs at an average of 31.46 and taken 316 wickets in 660 games. Bravo has 625 wickets taken and 6,957 runs scored. In addition to his 13,360 runs, Shoaib has 182 scalps.
RCB VS KKR 2024 Match Highlights
In their most recent IPL match, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by seven wickets, thanks primarily to a persistent half-century by Venkatesh Iyer.
The Knight Riders exceeded the 183-run mark set by RCB thanks to Venkatesh’s quick 50 off 30 deliveries (3 fours, 4 sixes) and the spectacular opening efforts of Sunil Narine (47 off 22 balls, 2 fours, and 5 sixes) and Phil Salt (30 off 20 balls, 2 fours, and 2 sixes).
Virat Kohli had set the tone with his deft, undefeated 83 runs.
As they chased down the target in just 16.5 overs, the KKR hitters were never slowed down by a sluggish pitch or the RCB bowlers. Venkatesh, who is making a concerted effort to become relevant again in white-ball formats, perfectly summed up their strategy on the night when he and captain Shreyas Iyer (39 not out) contributed 75 runs for the third wicket.
With a barrage of brilliant strokes, Narine and Salt combined to add 86 runs in just 6.3 overs as the visitors’ chase got underway. Salt initiated the devastation by hitting Mohammed Siraj, a pacer, for eighteen runs in the opening over while hitting two sixes and a four.
Narine did the same. The left-hander wrecked left-arm pacer Dayal’s stats by clobbering him for 21 runs in the sixth over, including four and two sixes in three successive balls, after blasting Joseph for two sixes in the third over.
The Chinnaswamy surface did have a hint of sluggishness, but the RCB bowlers made very less attempt to take advantage of it by hitting slower balls than their Knight Riders rivals.
