It will be the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in less than a month. However, it is unknown where India’s top batsman, Virat Kohli, would sit on the 15-man roster. While Kohli’s spot in the squad is secure, there is a lot of conjecture around his batting position when India plays Ireland on June 6 in their T20 World Cup opener.
The World Cup Lineup Prediction
India’s T20 World Cup lineup is predicted to start with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The two had not participated in a Twenty20 international match since India’s 2022 World Cup defeat. They did, however, make a comeback in January 2024 to play Afghanistan.
Sourav Ganguly, the former president of the BCCI, and numerous other legendary cricket players believe that Kohli and Rohit Sharma should open the innings together. But Harbhajan Singh, a former spinner for India, opened the batting for Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Harbhajan Singh Wants Virat Kohli To Bar At No.3
According to the Hindustan Times, Harbhajan stated to Star Sports, “I think Virat Kohli should come at No. 3 and Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma should open for India.” Harbhajan went on to say that a left-right combo should be at the top.
“Shivam Dube is a guy who can bat at number three if six seven overs are played. At four, Kohli can then come in,” Harbhajan was cited as saying.
He stated that it’s necessary “to take the horses-for-courses approach here, and there’s no disrespect in that.”. “Kohli is an excellent player; the team always comes first, regardless of whether he plays at no. 3 or no. 4. Harbhajan continued, “Even if you ask him this question, he will say the team comes first.”
Yuvraj Singh On Virat Kohli
Yuvraj Singh, a great former cricketer from India, emphasized the significance of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the Indian team’s success in this year’s major international tournament. However, Yuvraj advised Rohit and Kohli to focus on other formats and think about giving up on playing T20I cricket after the T20 World Cup is over.
“People forget about your shape as you get older and start talking about your age. According to the ICC, Yuvraj said, “These guys have been great players for India and they deserve to go (retire) when they want.”
On June 5, India will play Ireland in the T20 World Cup at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
