Based on polling conducted in all 80 parliamentary constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission has reported that the Samajwadi Party and the Congress of the INDIA alliance are leading in 34 and 7 Lok Sabha seats, respectively. 35 seats are in the lead for the BJP-led NDA.
With 35 seats in the lead, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was followed by its partners Rashtriya Lok Dal and Apna Dal, each with one seat. Om Kumar of the BJP was trailing Chandrashekhar of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram) by 1,09,799 votes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in Lucknow, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav in Kannauj and Mainpuri, and Congress candidates Rahul Gandhi and Kishori Lal Sharma in Rae Bareli and Amethi are just a few of the well-known figures who have established comfortable leads over their opponents.
SP’s Historic Blow
Akhilesh Yadav’s party in Uttar Pradesh has handed a crushing blow to the BJP, which had won 62 seats on its own in 2019. The party had gained five seats in the last election by working with the BSP.
In this crucial political state, Mr. Yadav led the opposition’s campaign from the front, working effectively with Arvind Kejriwal’s organization and Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.
In the first general election following the passing of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh did not let anyone down; in fact, it now holds a larger advantage in seats than it did in the 2004 election.
The opposition made a turnabout at the same time that Mr. Modi frequently referred to Mr. Yadav and Rahul Gandhi as “Do ladko ki jodi.”
Mr. Yadav decided to rally support for his wife Dimple Yadav and his three cousins who are also running for the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat.
Earlier in the campaign, Mr. Yadav responded to the ruling party’s charge of nepotism by claiming that people without families had no right to criticize others, forcing the BJP to reframe its storyline and even put it slightly on the defensive.
The response prompted grassroots activists and the whole BJP leadership to include “Modi ka Parivaar” in their social media biographies.
In addition to giving the TMC one seat and giving Congress eighteen seats, the SP put up its own candidates in the remaining eighty constituencies.
