CBI Questions Sandeep Ghosh
The Central Bureau of Investigation questioned Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a junior doctor was sexually assaulted and killed on August 9, for more than 1.5 hours on Friday.
When concerns were expressed over the Kolkata police’s handling of the case, the CBI assumed control of the investigation. Ghosh showed up for interrogation in the afternoon at the CBI office in the CGO building in Kolkata. Sources claim that after Ghosh voiced worries about his safety, CBI officers drove him to their office in an agency car.
The agency had already questioned four hospital physicians and two members of the Kolkata Police SIT that had initially looked into the issue. The case is being investigated by a special 12-person CBI team.
Ghosh had resigned “on moral grounds” from his position as principal on Monday. A few hours after he was named principal of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH) by the West Bengal government, students protested and forbade him from entering the campus.

Chief Justice Issues A Warning
The Calcutta High Court had chastised the police and hospital administration for allowing miscreants to deface hospital property as doctors were staging a nocturnal protest the day before he was questioned.
It was difficult to accept that police intelligence was unaware of the 7,000-person gathering, according to a division bench led by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam. The Chief Justice issued a warning as well, stating that the court has the authority to order the medical facility to close. A second hearing on the subject is scheduled for August 21, at which point the Bench ordered the police and hospital administrator to provide independent affidavits regarding the “true state of affairs” at the facility.
The opposition CPI(M) and BJP, according to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, planned the hospital’s damage and are trying to obfuscate the facts by disseminating false information on social media. Banerjee complimented the Kolkata Police for their investigation while restating her demand that the accused be given hanging.
She asked the CBI to wrap up the investigation by Sunday as well. In addition, Banerjee asserted, “The nexus between the Left and BJP should be exposed,” as she led a protest rally in Kolkata from Moulali to Dorina Crossing, calling for justice for the victim. To erase proof of the horrifying crime, they vandalized the hospital.
