Today is important for the Gulmohar squad. The 70th National Film Awards for Best Hindi Film went to the Rahul V. Chittella-directed picture. The announcement ceremony was held on Friday. In addition, Gulmohar received a special mention and a Best Screenplay award.
An Interview With Sharmila Tagore
In an interview with NDTV, seasoned actress Sharmila Tagore—who made her OTT debut with Gulmohar—expressed her happiness. “Thank you so much,” she exclaimed. It was not what we had anticipated. I am ecstatic beyond belief. It truly is deserving. Director Rahul V. Chittella is a novice. The journey of the movie has been so amazing because of everyone’s response in the audience…After that, numerous honors were received from every forum. The National Award is, of course, the cherry on top. And this has me giddy with delight. A special is also given to Manoj [Bajpayee]. I think it’s fantastic, and I’m really thrilled for Rahul and for us all. Gulmohar is the third National Film Award that seasoned actress Sharmila Tagore has won. She had previously received two National Film Awards for the films Abar Aranye (2003) and Mausam (1976).
Gulmohar: The Movie
Gulmohar was made available straight on Disney Plus Hotstar, an over-the-top platform. Is over-the-top (OTT) going to revolutionize the cinema industry? was the question posed to Sharmila Tagore during the interview. “A film is a film, and it’s hard to tell them apart,” she remarked. It is obviously fantastic to watch it on a large screen. That isn’t truly comparable. A large screen differs significantly from a tiny screen. It would have been amazing if we had considered a theater release rather than an OTT one. However, neither the producers nor ourselves realized at the time that it would be a hit.
And like I said, a film is a film. Laapataa Ladies debuted on the big screen, and I have no doubt that an OTT release would have greatly increased its popularity. Gulmohar was on OTT by happenstance. Don’t compare them, please. OTT showed a greater interest in our kind of movies.
Sharmila Tagore’s Comeback Post 12-Year Hiatus
After a 12-year hiatus, Sharmila returned to acting for Gulmohar. In response to the question of whether the accolade has inspired her to work on even more movies, particularly since people are always thrilled to see her on screen, Sharmila stated that although the support of the public is important, producers should be eager to support her. “I don’t know about the audience, but the producers need to be interested,” she remarks. I have nothing against making movies.
