After being unanimously voted as the legislature party leader by the leaders of the JMM-led alliance in the state, Hemant Soren, who is currently out on bail in connection with a money laundering case, announced his intention to form the government on Wednesday, following the resignation of Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren.
Champai Soren met Governor CP Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan and tendered his resignation in front of the JMM executive president, capping a day-long drama full of rumors. Champai Soren had taken office as Jharkhand’s 12th chief minister on February 2 following the arrest of Hemant Soren.
Hemant Soren Declares His Intention
The swearing-in event is probably going to happen shortly, as Hemant Soren declared his intention to establish the government. Hemant Soren, who was separated from Bihar on November 15, 2000, will become the 13th chief minister of Jharkhand if he is sworn in.
“In accordance with the partnership led by JMM, I have resigned. After leaving Raj Bhavan, Champai Soren remarked, “Our alliance is strong.”
“Everyone is aware of the events involving Hemant Soren Ji… The coalition partners delegated the task to me. Hemant Soren Ji is now the beneficiary of the alliance’s decision,” he declared.
Hemant Soren told the media that all requirements for forming a government have been fulfilled.
The JMM executive president responded, “Everything will be disclosed soon,” when questioned about the swearing-in. Prior to this, according to party sources, alliance leaders and MLAs met at Champai Soren’s home in this area. They resolved unanimously to elect Hemant Soren as the JMM legislative party leader.
JMM-Led Plan
The JMM-led alliance in the state lost strength to 45 MLAs (JMM-27, Congress-17, and RJD-1) during the Lok Sabha elections.
Nalin Soren and Joba Majhi, two former JMM MLAs, are currently members of parliament, and Jama lawmaker Sita Soren resigned to run for office on a BJP ticket in the general elections.
Two further legislators, Bishunpur MLA Chamra Linda, and Boriyo MLA Lobin Hembrom, were kicked out of the party by the JMM.
Similarly, the BJP currently has 24 members in the assembly because two of its MLAs, Manish Jaiswal (Hazaribag) and Dhulu Mahto (Baghmara), are MPs. Jaiprakash Bhai Patel, the Mandu MLA, was expelled by the saffron party after he joined the Congress to run in the elections.
There are now 76 members in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly.
