Officials announced on August 1 that a 62-year-old man had perished in a building collapse in the Sabji Mandi neighborhood of north Delhi, bringing the total number of fatalities from rain-related accidents in the National Capital to three. Many people were injured in other incidents throughout the city.
Residents Lose Lives To The Harsh Delhi Rains
On July 31, the evening brought pandemonium to Delhi due to heavy rainfall that submerged a big portion of the city, congested important routes, and left many stranded.
Anil Kumar Gupta, the dead, was inside the building when it fell about 8:30 p.m., according to a police official. The officer further stated that he passed away at Saint Stephen’s Hospital from his wounds.
On Wednesday night, Tanuja, 22, and her son, Priyansh, 3, perished after falling into a flooded drain while attending a weekly market in the Ghazipur neighborhood of east Delhi. According to the officials, the event happened at approximately 8 p.m. close to the Khoda Colony neighborhood, where the roadside drain was still being built.
The two were extracted with the assistance of cranes and divers, and they were carried to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where medical professionals pronounced them deceased, according to the police officer.
The Constant Waterclogging Reports
A police officer was helping a woman wade over a flooded road in the Old Rajinder Nagar neighborhood of New Delhi during a downpour. According to the officials, the Delhi Police had received 2,945 complaints about traffic jams, 127 reports about waterlogging, 27 reports about building collapses, and 50 reports about trees falling until 7 a.m.
Around 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday, a wall collapsed in south Delhi’s Defence Colony, injuring a woman and damaging an automobile, according to a police officer. According to the officer, at 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday, a section of a home wall collapsed in the Shastri Park neighborhood of northeast Delhi, injuring two other persons.
Delhi Police Sends Advisory
The Delhi Police has advised commuters to avoid Mundka due to severe flooding in the area in a post on X.
Due to significant waterlogging and potholes on the Mundka route, traffic is impacted on the Rohtak route in the lane that runs from Nangloi towards the Tikri Border and vice versa. Please stay away from Mundka and take an appropriate detour,” it stated.
According to the officer, a school wall fell in Daryaganj, central Delhi, on Wednesday night, causing damage to five automobiles as well. He also mentioned another incident in which a wall collapsed in the Vasant Kunj neighborhood of southwest Delhi, resulting in at least six automobiles being destroyed.
The capital was added to the weather office’s list of “areas of concern” in the National Flash Flood Guidance Bulletin due to the heavy downpour. The department issued advisories telling residents to stay inside, lock their windows and doors, and avoid making needless trips.
Late on Wednesday night, Education Minister Atishi said that all of the city’s schools will be closed on Thursday.
