On April 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi intensified his criticism of the Congress for its purported wealth redistribution and social justice pledges, asserting that the Congress’s “dangerous intentions” were gradually becoming apparent.
PM Modi Calls Congress’s Plan A Dangerous Game
Speaking at election rallies in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Mr. Modi restated his claim that the Congress’s social welfare and inequality reduction plan was nothing more than a “dangerous game” involving the redistribution of money and the “snatching of people’s rights and properties.”.
“This is the loot of Congress.” “In this life as well as the next, Zindagi ke saath bhi, Zindagi ke baad bhi,” he uttered. They want to assess your personal riches, possessions, homes, businesses, and land while you are still living, then give it all away to win over more votes. Additionally, they aim to deny you the opportunity to leave your possessions to be inherited by future generations,” he continued.
Congress Aims To Lower Current Quota?
Mr. Modi stated at each of the three rallies he spoke at on April 24 that the Congress intended to lower the current quota for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and other backward classes (OBCs) in order to adopt a 15% reservation on the basis of religion.
There is no mention of lowering the quota for SCs, STs, or OBCs or of a religion-based reservation in the Congress manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Actually, in order to increase the quota limit beyond 50%, a constitutional modification is called for in the Congress manifesto.
The party’s manifesto says only, “We will address the growing inequality of wealth and income through suitable changes in policies,” in reference to how it intends to combat economic inequality. It makes no mention of wealth redistribution or even wealth surveys, other than the caste census, which is scheduled to collect socioeconomic data as well.
Using instances from the southern States of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, Mr. Modi introduced his remarks about the Congress party’s “dangerous game to steal quotas of Dalits, Adivasis, and OBCs.” He also mentioned that the party had stated the “same intention” in its manifestos for the 2009 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Later in the day, at the campaign rallies in Sagar and Betul, Madhya Pradesh, he reiterated the same remarks once more.
PM Modi On Karnataka’s Reservation Policy
Regarding the reservation policy of the Karnataka government, Mr. Modi charged that Congress was “hoodwinking” the state’s OBC community by permitting all Muslim castes to receive reservations under the OBC classification. “Karnataka’s Congress government committed yet another transgression. The OBC quota was applied to all Muslim castes, designating them as OBCs. He declared that the Congress had “killed the secular religion of social justice in India” and that “the benefits that OBCs in our country were getting were cut off.”
Moreover, PM Modi stated at Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, “The Congress is the OBCs’ greatest enemy because it has taken their rights away.” The values of social justice have been destroyed by the Congress. It has denigrated Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy and damaged the fundamental principles of the Constitution.”
