After defeating Augsburg 2-1, Bayern Leverkusen became the first team to go through the whole Bundesliga season undefeated. The goals from Robert Andrich and Victor Boniface gave Xabi Alonso’s team its 28th victory of the year.
Bayern Misses Top Two Spot
Leverkusen finished the season with 90 points despite drawing six games and never losing. In the Bundesliga era, only Bayern Munich’s 2012–13 winners have amassed more (91).
Bayern, on the other hand, suffered a 4-2 loss at Hoffenheim and ended third. Stuttgart moved one point clear of Thomas Tuchel’s squad with their 4-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach. Since 2010–11, this is the first time Bayern has not placed in the top two in Germany’s premier division.
Bayer Leverkusen Stats
This season, Leverkusen had also gone undefeated in every competition and advanced to both the German Cup and Europa League finals.
Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw against Roma in the Europa League semifinals earlier this month guaranteed that the German team would go 49 games without a loss and shattered the record for the longest run without a loss against a European club since the UEFA club competitions began in 1955.

Leverkusen broke the Portuguese team Benfica’s record of 48 straight games without a loss from December 1963 to February 1965 with an 8-0 victory over FC Teutonia Ottensen in the German Cup on August 12.
A Historic Moment For Bayer Leverkusen
During their undefeated run, the illustrious Benfica squad, captained by Eusebio, won the Portuguese league and cup.
Leverkusen has won 42 of their 34 Bundesliga games, five German Cup games, and 12 Europa League games while playing under Alonso.
They are on the cusp of a triple crown, thanks to their success. They have already won the Bundesliga, putting an end to Bayern’s 11-year hegemony. In the German Cup final on May 25, they will play second-tier Kaiserslautern; in the Europa League final on May 22, they will play Atalanta.
