Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a stern message on Sunday, as worries about crimes against women continue to rise. He promised that those who commit these atrocities “will not be spared.”
PM Modi’s Addressal Of Recent Atrocious Cases
PM Modi addressed the recent national outcry over crimes like the Assam gangrape, the Badlapur school sex abuse case, and the Kolkata doctor’s rape and murder during his speech at the Lakhpati Didi event in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. Crimes against women, in his words, are an “unforgivable sin.”.
“It is society and the government’s duty to uphold the safety and dignity of women… We are strengthening and making stricter laws for criminals who commit sins against women,” the Prime Minister said.
Government’s Legal Reforms Unveiled
Prime Minister Modi outlined the government’s initiatives to improve legal frameworks and enforcement methods, including the introduction of new legislation and the development of new tools to increase victims’ access to justice.
“Earlier, there were complaints that FIRs were not filed. We brought the BNS [Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita] and made a lot of amendments,” he said. “If a woman does not want to go to the police station, she can file an e-FIR. Nobody can change or tamper with an e-FIR.”
Regarding crimes against women after marriage, Prime Minister Modi stated that his government has specifically amended the BNS to address these issues. He gave the assurance that, when it comes to combating crimes against women, the federal government stands solidly with state governments.
“Today, I challenge you: keep the seven decades of previous governments on one side and put 10 years of the Modi government on the other scale… The amount of work that the Modi government has done for the sisters and daughters of the country, no government has done since independence,” he said.
PM Modi Lakhpati Didi Plan: One Crore Women Empowered
The Prime Minister visited Jalgaon to engage with women who belong to self-help groups and are known as “Lakhpati Didis,” as they have reached an annual income of Rs 1 lakh. In addition to awarding 11 lakh new Lakhpati Didis during the function, PM Modi disbursed bank loans totaling Rs 5,000 crore, helping 25.8 lakh members of 2.35 lakh SHGs.
One crore women have participated in the Lakhpati Didi plan since its launch, and the government has set the lofty goal of making three crore women Lakhpati Didis, according to news agency PTI.
PM Modi praised the Eknath Shinde dispensation’s emphasis on promoting economic growth and women’s empowerment, saying, “A government for development is a Mahayuti government.”
