A Bharat Bandh 2024 has been scheduled for August 21, 2024, by the Reservation Bachao Sangharsh Samiti in response to the recent ruling on SC/ST reservations by the Supreme Court. With the backing of Rajasthan’s SC/ST groups, a large turnout is anticipated for the bandh. The authorities have been directed to take action in order to keep the peace throughout the demonstration.
Reason Behind The Bharat Bandh 2024
There has been a lot of debate regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling to permit states to divide the SC and ST groups into smaller groups. The decision made it clear that reservations should be made with priority for people in need. Numerous political and social groups have opposed this decision, claiming that it violates the fundamentals of reservation. The goal of the Bharat Bandh is to contest this decision and call for its reversal.
The decision by the Supreme Court to remove the “creamy layer” from the SC/ST quota has caused controversy and prompted this protest. According to the report, police personnel around Rajasthan have been instructed to step up their deployment and work with local SC/ST groups to guarantee peaceful protests.
High Alert Issued By Authorities
Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph of Jaipur has already opened communication with organizations that back the strike. In order to avert any possible confrontations or disturbances during the demonstration, the authorities are acting proactively.
Police authorities have stepped up their presence throughout the regions in preparation of possible disturbances. Senior police officers, district magistrates, and divisional commissioners participated in a high-level video conference. A high alert has been issued for Western Uttar Pradesh, which has been designated as a sensitive area. “We have asked our officials to organize meetings with groups calling for the bandh, as well as with market associations, to facilitate better cooperation,” stated DGP UR Sahoo.
Bharat Bandh 2024: What Will Run?
According to a TOI report, the protest organizers have urged all business organizations to maintain closed marketplaces. However, since market committees have not provided confirmation, it is still uncertain whether markets will truly close or whether the shutdown will impact the whole nation.
Ambulance services and other essential services will continue to run even if the bandh is predicted to cause disruptions to private offices and public transportation. According to media sources, despite the call for a Bharat Bandh, government buildings, banks, schools, colleges, and gas stations will remain open. Emergency services like medical care, drinking water, trains, public transportation, and power will also continue to be available.
