On June 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will observe International Yoga Day 2024 in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, along the Dal Lake. The event, which is set to take place at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) on the lovely Boulevard Road, is anticipated to draw between 3,000 and 4,000 attendees.
The International Day of Yoga’s theme this year is “Yoga for Self and Society,” emphasizing the dual benefits of yoga for promoting both social and individual well-being. The Prime Minister has written to every Gram Pradhan, urging grassroots involvement and the expansion of yoga in rural regions, according to Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State for Ayush (independent charge), who made this announcement in Delhi on Tuesday.
Srinagar Prepares For International Yoga Day 2024
The government of Srinagar is prepared to hold the nation’s premier yoga event in the city on International Day of Yoga. The administration of Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha of the Union Territory has made special plans for the event, which also happens to be Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir following his inauguration for a record-breaking third term.
Additionally, this will be PM Modi’s second trip to Srinagar in 2019. In February, before to the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, the Prime Minister traveled to Srinagar and spoke at a rally. Two of the five seats in Jammu and Kashmir were won by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), both of which are in the Jammu region.
In addition to party workers, attendees of the event are anticipated to include students, officials, sports celebrities, and enthusiasts. When the Prime Minister is anticipated to arrive in Srinagar on Thursday evening, the authorities will erect a multi-layered security perimeter throughout the city. Srinagar has already been designated a “temporary red zone” by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, prohibiting the use of drones and quadcopters there until at least Friday, when the event concludes.
PM Modi: A Religious Yoga Promoter
In response to a request from Prime Minister Modi, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared in December 2014 that June 21 would be recognized annually as International Day of Yoga (IDY).
Global yoga promotion has been greatly aided by Prime Minister Modi. Since 2015, the Prime Minister has spearheaded the International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations in several prominent venues, such as Delhi’s Kartavya Path, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Jabalpur, and even the UN Headquarters in New York, where he held the event the previous year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been promoting yoga and its advantages by posting several asanas on his X account in the lead-up to this Friday’s major event. A few instructional movies featuring an animation showing how to do a specific yoga pose were posted by PM Modi.
IDY has established four Guinness Book of World Records in the past ten years. Alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 35,985 Indians practiced yoga at Rajpath in 2015.
