Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Nalanda University campus was described as “historic” by Abhay Kumar Singh, interim vice-chancellor of the university.
A Historic Event At The New Nalanda University
Professor Abhay Kumar Singh, the acting vice-chancellor of Nalanda University in Bihar, referred to the event as “historic” on the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the university to officially open its new campus on Wednesday.
“We view the Prime Minister’s visit as a highly esteemed and fortunate event,” Mr. Singh declared. “By bringing the ambassadors of the East Asia Summit countries, the Prime Minister has elevated the occasion to a unique one.” External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is also arriving. Nalanda would benefit from this joyous atmosphere, he remarked.
Mr. Singh predicted that the university would get more recognition on a global scale following the Prime Minister’s visit. Currently, this school is home to students from 26 different nations.
“The PM’s visit is a significant indication of authenticity and approval. Our responsibilities will grow after that. People will begin to take Nalanda University seriously. People from other nations will be interested in it. Moreover, people will think of the university as a preeminent establishment, Mr. Singh predicted.
Gratitude For Constant Support
Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, received gratitude from the vice chancellor for his unwavering support of the university. The Prime Minister will be in attendance as well as Mr. Kumar.
“The Bihar government has made a big contribution. Former President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam proposed the idea while addressing a joint session of the Bihar legislature to revamp the Nalanda University in 2006. The State government responded very quickly,” Mr. Singh said.
The Ancient Nalanda University
The Bihar Assembly approved a bill to create a new university in 2007 at the request of the late President. The university was granted 455 acres of land by the government. It was recognized as an institution of national importance and was founded on November 25, 2010, by a special Act of the Parliament. In 2016, former President Pranab Mukherjee dedicated the permanent campus at Pilkhi hamlet in Rajgir, close to the remnants of the historic Nalanda University.
The university’s first vice-chancellor was Gopa Sabharwal, and its first chancellor was Nobel laureate Amartya Sen. Arvind Panagariya is the chancellor at the moment.
