At least five people were dead, according to a Texas sheriff, after strong storms destroyed homes and knocked out electricity for thousands of people in a rural hamlet.
Storms Destroy North Of Dallas
The catastrophic storms started. Authorities said that a tornado north of Dallas destroyed large camper vehicles, closed an interstate, and seriously damaged a highway travel center where motorists had hurried to seek cover.
Sappington declared on Sunday morning that “search and rescue is ongoing.” However, we have also begun the process of recovering the deceased. However, we do currently have five verified deaths, and regrettably, we believe that number will likely rise.
In addition to triple-digit temperature advisories for people over the long holiday weekend and several heat records broken during the day in South Texas, forecasters had issued severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings for portions of both states.
Oklahoma Shut Down
The city of Claremore, Oklahoma, approximately 28 miles (45 kilometers) east of Tulsa, was declared “shut down” by the Claremore police on social media due to storm damage that included downed power lines, trees, and impassable roadways.
The warning was issued for northern Noble and far southern Kay counties, located north of Oklahoma City, according to information posted on the social media platform X by the National Weather Service office in Norman, Oklahoma. It declared, “Take cover now if you are in the path of this storm.”
Storms In Texas May Impact Oklahoma
Storms had passed over the area, according to a message made at 10:05 p.m., but it also mentioned a storm that was heading across north Texas and might have an impact on parts of south-central Oklahoma.
Residents in Era and Valley View were advised to seek cover immediately as they were in the direct line of a potential tornado, according to a notice sent by the Fort Worth weather service office at 10:24 p.m. The Fort Worth office issued a severe thunderstorm warning with the possibility of “golf ball-sized hail” in addition to keeping alerts and shelter warnings up until midnight while they tracked the storm’s movement.
Hugo, Boswell, Fort Towson, Grainola, Foraker, Herd, and other nearby villages received severe thunderstorm warnings from the Tulsa, Oklahoma, weather service office on X, alerting listeners to a potentially dangerous storm that was expected to traverse the northeastern section of the state until two in the morning.
