On Friday night, 48-year-old Tamil actor Daniel Balaji passed away from a heart attack. The actor’s unexpected passing has taken the Tamil cinema industry’s colleagues, family, and admirers by surprise. Daniel Balaji was taken to a hospital in Chennai’s Kottivakam area yesterday after he reportedly complained of chest problems, according to media sources. But despite the physicians’ best efforts, Balaji was not going to live. For the last rites, Daniel Balaji’s body has been brought to his Purasaiwalkam home.
Daniel Balaji’s Wish
Ramesh Bala, a trade expert, claims that Balaji had promised to donate his eyeballs after his death. “His wish has been granted by the doctors!” he announced on social media on Saturday.
His parents are Telugu and Tamil, and he was born T.C. Balaji. He attended the Taramani Film Institute in Chennai to study film directing.
It’s interesting to note that his family has a long history in film. Siddalingaiah, his uncle, is the father of Tamil actor Murali and a well-known director of Kannada films.
Daniel Balaji: Professional Career
According to an India Today report, Daniel Balaji began his career as a unit production manager in Kamal Haasan’s unfinished dream film, ‘Marudhunayagam’.
He ventured into television as well, appearing in Radikaa Sarathkumar’s “Chithhi” in a significant capacity. The actor, who gained the screen name Daniel Balaji, played the character of Daniel in a TV series.
The performer was well-known for portraying antagonists. Balaji portrayed noteworthy characters in the films Vettiyadu Vilayadu and Kaakha Kaakha.
His other films are ‘Yennai Arindhaal’ starring Ajith, ‘Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada’ starring Simbu, ‘Bairavaa’ starring Thalapathy Vijay, ‘Vada Chennai’ starring Dhanush, and ‘Bigil’ starring Vijay.
A Venture In Malayalam Cinema
Aside from Tamil and Telugu movies, Balaji also left his mark in Malayalam cinema. He made his screen debut in Black and went on to portray antagonists in movies like Daddy Cool and Bhagavan, where he starred alongside Mohanlal and Mammootty.
According to reports, Balaji’s final on-screen performance was in Mithran R. Jawahar’s 2023 Tamil action movie Ariyavan, in which he portrayed Thuraipandi.
