At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, during their Indian Premier League match against the Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad unleashed a torrent of power-hitting to smash records and leave fans speechless.
Sunrisers Hyderabad And The Historic Broken Record
In the allotted 20 overs, SRH amassed a stunning total of 277/3, driven by the explosive efforts of Travis Head (62 off 24), Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23), and Heinrich Klaasen (80 not out off 34).
With this amazing achievement, they broke the record that had stood for the longest time for the highest team total in an IPL innings, which was 263/5 in 20 overs against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India in 2013. It was previously held by Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The RCB Trend Setters
When Chris Gayle stepped off during the 2013 match in Bengaluru versus Pune Warriors, it was almost a one-man show. Gayle was the one who carried most of the weight, but there were cameos here and there. The second-highest score was 33, while the Universe Boss crushed 175*.
An Applause For The Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Batsmen
SRH went down the contemporary path to set the record. Head, Sharma, Markram, and Klaasen all hammered the leather out of the ball, demonstrating true teamwork. Markram’s 150.00 strike rate was the lowest of the four.
Travis Head, the SRH opener, got off to an explosive start, smashing a record-breaking eighteen balls to reach fifty. Sharma carried on the assault, hitting fifty in just sixteen balls, setting a new record for the fastest fifty by an SRH batsman in the competition. During his explosive 63 runs off only 23 balls, Sharma hit seven massive sixes and three fours. His onslaught was unrelenting.
At the other end of the SRH attack, Aiden Markram also contributed significantly with a solid 42 off 28 balls. Additionally, after 10 overs, SRH’s 148/2 set a new record for the highest total at the halfway point of an IPL innings.
