On Monday morning, there was a significant accident at the Mahakal Temple in Ujjain. In the sanctum sanctorum, the fire burned fourteen people during the Bhasma Aarti. Regarding the accident, the temple’s priests’ statements have been made public. He claimed that using chemical-based colors to play Holi was what led to the incident that occurred today. This is the first recorded arson event in the Mahakaleshwar temple’s history. The temple uses herbal colors for Holi, according to Priest Mahesh. This time, gulal cylinders and colors rich in chemicals were used to play Holi. Following an investigation into the disaster, pandits and priests are also calling for action.
What Led To The Tragedy At The Mahakal Temple?
The arson event resulted in injuries to three members of the priest’s family, in addition to staff and devotees. The upper portion of the sanctum sanctorum of the Mahakaleshwar temple is covered with a cloth during Holi. The silver Shri Yantra above the sanctum sanctorum has to be colored to safeguard it. On Holi, new plans were made at the Mahakaleshwar temple. It is reported that camphor caused an unexpected fire to break out in the sanctum sanctorum. The fire victims who were critically hurt were sent to Indore.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated in a post on X that, while the incident was regrettable, everything is now under control.
“Hospitals in Indore and Ujjain have accepted a few priests who were hurt. I’m heading over there. I will make sure that these things don’t happen again and I have ordered a magisterial probe. “Those who are at fault will face consequences,” he declared.
The Priests Demand Action
The head priest of the Mahakaleshwar temple, Ghanshyam Guru, mentioned that the priest and Baba Mahakal used to celebrate Holi together. Devotees have begun coming to the Mahakaleshwar temple in gulal and colors within the last few years. The Holi feast between the worshipper and God began after this.
Moreover, he claimed that although chemical-based colors were also used this time around, Holi was originally celebrated using gulal and herbal colors, which is how today’s incident came to light. The families of Pandit and Purohit denounced the arson incident and called for an investigation. Neeraj Kumar Singh, the collector for Ujjain, claims that directives have been issued.
