In preparation for the Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its fifth list of 111 candidates for seats spread across 16 states. Actor Kangana Ranaut and former Calcutta High Court Judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay were two of the new faces.
The Face Off
The former judge competed from the Tamluk seat in West Bengal. However, along with MP Varun Gandhi, the names of Union ministers Ashwini Kumar Choubey and V K Singh were removed by the BJP.
Kangana Ranaut also made her electoral debut. She described herself as a “fan” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Arun Govil, who portrayed Ram in the hit TV series Ramayan. Moreover, Ranaut had been fielded from the Mandi seat in Himachal Pradesh. Along

After losing in a close race in 2019, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will run from Sambalpur. Furthermore, party spokesperson Sambit Patra will make another run from Puri. In Sultanpur, the party fielded Maneka Gandhi, while in Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi was replaced by Uttar Pradesh minister Jitin Prasada. Sita Soren will battle from Jharkhand’s Dumka.
Former Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde had been dropped by the party from the Uttara Kannada seat. The BJP was fielding actor Arun Govil to represent Meerut in the Lok Sabha. Govil is well known for his role as Ram in the hit television series Ramayan.

The BJP nominated Tamilisai Soundararajan, a former governor of Telangana, from Chennai South on their third list of nine candidates from Tamil Nadu. It was also made public on March 21. A few days prior, Soundararajan tendered his resignation as governor of Telangana.
Furthermore, notable figures on the list included Pon Radhakrishnan from Kanyakumari, K Annamalai, the president of the Tamil Nadu BJP, from Coimbatore, and L Murugan, who will run from the Nilgiris.
On March 2, the BJP unveiled its initial roster of 195 contenders. It was declared that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will run for office a third time from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Furthermore, on March 13, the party unveiled a second list of 75 candidates that included 11 Union Ministers, including Pralhad Joshi, Anurag Singh Thakur, and Nitin Gadkari.
